P50 Pocket

  • Year  2022
  • Company HUAWEI
  • Duration   12 months

As my first foldable project, P50 Pocket marked a defining turning point in my career. Although I was not yet the series lead when the project began, my proposed concept was selected for production, establishing the foundational visual direction for Huawei’s small foldable lineup and ultimately leading to my role as Visual Lead for all subsequent foldables, including Pocket S, Pocket 2, and Pura X.

For the Iris van Herpen art Edition, a CMF collaboration led by our Paris Aesthetics Research Center, I translated her high-fashion couture language into interactive themes, launch event visuals, and also the inspiration for product marketing films. To complement the phone’s hardware form factor, I conceptualized a dynamic blooming sequence as a biological metaphor for the folding and unfolding gesture. I directed a photo shoot to capture real material physics and subtle light interactions on fabric, then guided 3D designers to reconstruct the geometry, mapping these photographic textures directly onto 3D models to simulate organic motion.

Seeing the impact of this visual language, the MateBook X Pro team invited me to extend the creative direction to their flagship laptop for the same launch event. To align with the PC’s new CMF colorway and accentuate its display color accuracy, I adjusted the dark theme into a light, high-contrast palette with vivid petal details. Delivering a cohesive visual identity across both mobile and PC on a single stage solidified my position as Visual Lead for the later foldable projects.
